Gas Project Ideas for Your Home and Yard

Fireplaces, gas ranges, furnaces, BBQs, fire tables and pool heaters, room by room, with what to plan first, for homes across Durham Region, Port Hope and Cobourg.

Linear gas fireplace in a modern living room feature wall

Most gas projects start with a picture: a fireplace you saw at a friend's place, a range with a real flame, a patio that stays warm into October. Here are ideas for every part of the house and yard, what each one involves, and when to bring Platinum Gas in so the gas work is planned before anything is built around it.

Start with the idea. We'll work out the gas.

Ideas for every room, inside and out

Pick a space to jump to it. Each idea links to the service behind it, so you can see exactly what is involved.

Living room

A fireplace that makes the room.

A gas fireplace gives you real flame and steady heat at the push of a button, with no wood to haul or ash to clean. The right model depends on the wall, the vent route and what you want above it.

Existing fireplace

Give an old fireplace a second life.

A drafty wood fireplace, or a gas one that hasn't worked in years, doesn't have to stay that way. There are three ways forward, and we can tell you which one suits your chimney and how you use the room.

Kitchen and laundry

Cook on a real flame. Dry on gas.

Switching a range or dryer to gas is mostly about what's behind it: a gas outlet and shutoff in the right spot, a vent route that works for the dryer, and a line sized for everything else on your meter.

Basement and heating

Heat that keeps up with the house.

A furnace upgrade is a good time to fix what has bothered you for years, like the room that never warms up. If you're finishing the basement, plan furnace access, venting and gas lines before the ceiling goes up.

Backyard and patio

Stay outside longer.

A BBQ that never runs out of fuel mid-cook, a fire table that lights with a switch, an outdoor kitchen built for summer nights. All of it is easier when the gas line goes in before the stone, decking or cabinets.

Gas lines

Plan the gas once. Add to it for years.

Most homes add gas appliances one at a time: a range this year, a BBQ next summer, a pool heater after that. When the line is sized and routed with the whole list in mind, each new appliance is a simple connection instead of a new run.

Add up the load first

We total the appliances you have and the ones you're planning, then check that against your meter or propane tank and the existing piping before you buy anything.

Route it before you build

Lines go in before drywall, stone, decking or cabinets, with a shutoff you can reach at every appliance.

Leave a spot for next year

A capped connection where the next appliance will go means nobody has to dig up the patio later.

Project questions

Planning, timing and working with your other trades.

Can I send a photo of something I saw online?

Yes. Send the photo with a few pictures of your space and the dimensions if you have them. We'll tell you what it takes to get that look in your home, and the quote is free.

What if I'm not sure what I want yet?

That's fine. Send photos of the room or yard and how you'd like to use it, and we'll suggest options that suit your space and gas supply.

Can my gas meter handle another appliance?

It depends on what's already connected. We add up the appliances you have and the ones you're planning, then check the total against your meter or propane tank and the existing piping, so you know before you buy.

Can I switch an electric range or dryer to gas?

Yes, as long as there's natural gas or propane at the house. We run the line to the appliance location, add a shutoff and make the connection. Send the model and a photo of the space so the quote covers everything.

When should I call about an outdoor kitchen or fire feature?

As early as possible, ideally while the design is still on paper. Running the gas line before stone, decking or cabinets go in is far easier than working around them later.

Can you work with my builder, designer or landscaper?

Yes. Builders, renovators, designers, landscapers and pool companies can send plans directly. We'll confirm the gas work and list what each trade needs to prepare.

Do these projects need natural gas?

No. Fireplaces, furnaces, ranges, BBQs, fire features and pool heaters can all run on natural gas or propane. We check your supply and confirm the right version of each appliance.

Are quotes free?

Yes. Send your idea and a few photos for a free quote. If we need to see the space, evening and weekend visits are available.
