Book a chimney sweep

Chimney sweeping in Bowmanville, done before your first fire.

Creosote builds up every time you burn wood. Platinum Gas sweeps the chimney serving your fireplace, protects the work area and gives you a free quote before the visit.

What the sweep covers

The sweep clears soot and creosote from the chimney serving your fireplace, with the work area protected and cleaned up afterward. If we spot heavy buildup, a damaged liner or a missing cap, you'll hear about it rather than finding out next season. Roof access, a camera inspection or a written report are included only when they're listed in your quote.

Booked around your schedule

Evening and weekend appointments are available, and the quote is free. When you book, mention nesting, smoke coming into the room, a strong smell or visible damage, so the right work is planned instead of a routine sweep. Reilly, the owner, has more than 10 years in the trade and will tell you plainly if the chimney needs more than a cleaning.

How often you burn and what wood you use decide how fast creosote builds up, so cleaning frequency depends on your use. If you've just moved into a home with an unfamiliar fireplace, have it looked at before lighting it. Platinum Gas is based in Bowmanville and sweeps chimneys across Courtice, Newcastle, Oshawa, Whitby, Port Hope and Cobourg. If you'd rather stop sweeping altogether, ask about a gas insert for the same opening. Send a photo of the fireplace and the date it was last swept.

Seasonal chimney cleaning

Plan chimney care before regular wood burning.

A wood-burning fireplace needs chimney care based on its use and buildup. Share the last sweep and inspection dates, how often you burn wood and any observations since the last visit.

We confirm the cleaning request, access and quoted scope. Arrange annual qualified inspection as part of the appliance's care, with additional cleaning when its condition and use require it.

Unknown history or a long period unused

Have an unused chimney assessed before use.

An unfamiliar or long-unused fireplace may have buildup, debris or damage that needs review. Tell us what you know about the appliance and chimney, using photos taken from a safe, accessible position.

We confirm whether the request is for sweeping or needs a separate qualified inspection or repair. Cleaning alone cannot establish the safety of a damaged or unverified installation.

Platinum Gas confirms which chimney is being swept, how it will be accessed and what protection and cleanup are included. Requests for a WETT report, camera inspection or repairs are identified separately so you can arrange the required professional and scope.

What to expect from a chimney-sweeping request

  1. Describe the appliance and chimney

Send the fuel, fireplace type, location and last known sweep date. Include access details and any smoke, damage or disuse concerns without climbing or dismantling equipment.

  2. Confirm the cleaning scope and access

We explain the quoted sweeping, work-area protection and cleanup. Any separate inspection, special access or repair requirement is identified before the visit.

  3. Complete the sweep and note further work

After the agreed cleaning, we explain observations that need further attention. Keep the sweep details and arrange any recommended qualified inspection or repair before reuse where required.

Chimney sweeping questions

The differences between chimney sweeping, gas-fireplace maintenance and inspection reports, plus what to include when requesting a quote.

Does every gas fireplace need chimney sweeping?

Many gas fireplaces have a dedicated vent system and need model-specific gas-appliance maintenance. This chimney-sweeping service is for wood-burning fireplace chimneys. For a stove or another appliance, send the fuel, model and chimney details so we can confirm whether the requested work can be provided.

Is chimney sweeping the same as a WETT inspection?

Sweeping is a cleaning service. A WETT inspection and written report require a separate scope and an appropriately WETT-certified individual. If you need documentation for insurance or a property transaction, identify that before booking; a sweep does not certify the installation.

Are chimney liner or masonry repairs included?

Liner, masonry, cap, structural and water-leak repairs are separate from the sweep unless specifically quoted. Report cracks, leaks or other visible damage before booking so any inspection or repair can be directed to the appropriate qualified professional.

What information should I send?

Share your location, fuel, fireplace type, chimney type if known, last sweep date and how often it is used. Add access details and the reason for the request. Photos should come from a safe, accessible position without climbing onto the roof or dismantling the appliance.

What affects a chimney-sweeping quote?

The appliance, chimney configuration, buildup and access affect the sweeping quote. Work-area protection and cleanup should be identified, along with whether disassembly or disposal is included. Roof access, camera reports, inspection documentation and repairs are separate unless listed in the written scope.

How often should a chimney be inspected or cleaned?

Arrange a qualified chimney inspection each year and cleaning as the use and buildup require. Keep both inspection and sweeping records. Stop using the appliance if smoke enters the room or damage is suspected. A chimney fire or carbon-monoxide alarm requires emergency help; have the system assessed before it is used again.
