Opening, venting and clearances first

Every fireplace model has its own framing dimensions, vent route and clearances to the mantel, TV and side walls. We confirm them, along with the gas line route, before framing, stone or tile is ordered, and give your contractor the numbers up front. It's the simplest way to avoid reopening a finished wall because the vent or the mantel height doesn't work.

One quote, clearly split

The free quote covers the gas line, venting, fireplace setup and removal of any old unit, and says who handles framing, electrical and finishing. Once it's installed, we light it, check the flame and controls, and show you the remote and the basics of looking after it. The installation carries a workmanship warranty, and evening and weekend visits are available.

Homes in town usually run on natural gas and rural properties on propane, and we install fireplaces for both. Platinum Gas is based in Bowmanville and works across Courtice, Newcastle, Oshawa, Whitby, Port Hope and Cobourg. Send photos of the room, a rough wall layout and the models you're considering, and we'll tell you what fits.

Gas fireplace installation options

Choose the type of project you are planning. Each starts with different measurements, equipment details and existing conditions.

New built-in fireplace

Install a gas fireplace in a new location.

A built-in fireplace can add a heating feature to a living room, basement or renovation. The model, room size and intended use help determine the right heat output and viewing area.

We review the gas-line route and a manufacturer-approved vent path before the wall is framed. Your contractors can then allow for the required opening, clearances, electrical supply and access for future service.

Existing-fireplace insert

Add a gas insert to an existing fireplace.

A compatible gas insert lets you use an existing fireplace opening with natural gas or propane. It can retain much of the existing surround while changing the appliance, flame view and controls.

We check the opening dimensions, fireplace construction, chimney or venting and gas access against the selected insert. That review identifies any liner, electrical or surround work the project also needs.

Replacement fireplace

Replace an older gas fireplace.

Replacing an older unit gives you the opportunity to change the flame view, heat output or controls. Send the existing model and photos of the whole surround before choosing its replacement.

We compare the new appliance requirements with the current opening, venting, gas line and shutoff. The quote identifies removal and the installation work, with any changes to framing or finishes agreed before the old unit comes out.

Natural gas or propane conversion

Confirm an approved fuel conversion.

Some gas fireplaces can be converted between natural gas and propane using a kit approved by the manufacturer for that exact model.

We review the model, rating information and conversion instructions before quoting the work. The available fuel, required parts and supply connection must all suit the appliance; a fuel change is confirmed before parts are ordered.

Your gas fireplace installation in three steps

  1. Review the room and fireplace

Send room photos, your location and the models you like. We review the opening, gas supply, venting and any site details that need to be checked in person.

  2. Confirm the quote and preparation

The quote identifies the installation work, removal where included and what framing, electrical or finishing work must be ready. Confirm the model before equipment and finishes are ordered.

  3. Install, check and demonstrate

We complete the agreed installation, check the connections and operation, then show you the controls and explain the model's care and professional-service requirements.

Fireplace installation questions

Answers to the decisions that affect a fireplace quote, from choosing a model to coordinating the surround and ongoing service.

What affects gas fireplace installation cost?

The fireplace model, gas-line distance, vent route and exterior termination affect installation cost. Replacements also depend on the existing opening, removal and what can be reused. Your quote identifies included gas and appliance work, with framing, electrical and decorative finishes separated where another contractor is responsible.

What is included in the installation quote?

The quote lists the gas-line, shutoff, connection, venting, fireplace setup, operating checks and walkthrough included for your project. It also confirms removal and disposal, any applicable permit or inspection responsibilities, and what framing, electrical or finishing work another contractor must complete. Clearances and access for service are confirmed before the surround is finished.

Should I choose a fireplace before requesting a quote?

Share any models you like, but confirm their installation requirements before buying. The opening, vent route, heat output and surrounding materials can affect which fireplace suits the room. An early review also helps your framing and finishing contractors work from the correct specifications.

What photos and details help with a quote?

Send a wide view of the wall, the existing fireplace or opening, and a readable model label if safely accessible. Photos of the nearby exterior can help with the first venting discussion. Include any plans for a mantel, television or cabinetry. Do not remove panels or climb to collect photos.

Can Platinum Gas replace my existing gas fireplace?

Yes. We review the existing and proposed models, opening, venting, fuel supply and surround. The quote then identifies removal, installation and any changes needed around the replacement. Existing vents or connections can be reused only when they are suitable for the new appliance.

What care will my new fireplace need?

Arrange annual professional fireplace service and follow the manufacturer's care instructions. Keep the safety barrier in place and the required space around the appliance clear. Use only the cleaning method and products approved for your model, and leave gas components, internal adjustments and venting work to a qualified technician. Keep the manual and service record for future visits.
